Hanukkah geld

Happy Hanukkah 2017

Tonight is the lighting of the first Hanukkah candle. Of all the Jewish holidays, Hanukkah is probably my favorite. And that is not only because of its trappings – all the light, and the candles, and the sufganiyot and the levivot (I so love levivot) – but also because of its message.

A helper against us

In Quality Assurance, how does any process begin? From a definition, born of necessity, with the guidance, for instance, of the ISO 9001 standard, which instructs us to identify the processes in our organization and define them. That is, to decide how we perform them, which we may put in writing, so everyone can verify in the future, if they forget. We call that “procedure”.

Tourist monument in the Madurodam park for the nameless boy who saved the dyke.

Who’s afraid of responsibility?

In the Scheveningen district of The Hague in the Netherlands lies a miniature park called Madurodam, home to a range of 1:25 scale model replicas of famous Dutch landmarks. Among them is a statue of the famous Dutch boy, who has taken responsibility and plugged a leaking dike (picture on the right).

An Exercise in Futility

Most of you are well familiar with the feeling the Quality Assurance engineer/manager/person has in the majority of organizations: all this effort, overcoming all this resistance and then, upon leaving it unattended for a little while – everything just whams back into nothing, as if you have never done anything at all.
